“Minor Discord” by Helen Laycock

This creepy collection of short stories often read like well written poetry.  Some of the stories are no longer than one page in length.  But don’t let their sparseness trick you into thinking that the hairs on the back of your neck won’t stand up because they will.  Some tales are subtle, taking me a minute or two to process the meaning before the – bam—fear evoked brain freeze.  Some of the stories are bizarrely humorous.  I especially enjoyed reading about Gabe a.k.a. Archangel Gabriel and Lucifer in a business meeting.  Others are so vividly scary that I needed to take breaks.  Perfect reading for when you are all alone on a cold, stormy night with nothing to do but “kill” a few hours.
